“Kaufhaus des Westens” Berlin ramps in multi-storey car park 1
Multi-storey car park 1 of the “Kaufhaus des Westens” department store in the heart of Berlin comprises approx. 700 parking spaces, which are connected on a total of 6 levels via 12 ramps. Mechanical wear in the course of its service life and the associated lack of noise protection on the connecting ramps were the main reasons for the refurbishment being necessary. Further refurbishment objectives were to reduce cost losses due to long shutdown periods and keep structural interference for KaDeWe customers to a minimum. A permanent system solution was also required for the extremely high frequency and mechanical load placed on the ramps. On behalf of KARSTADT Warenhaus GmbH as the client, Dipl. Ing. Michael Hänig of ibb Mangold was looking for an economical yet best technical solution. Together with Sebastian Lücke, the Triflex contact person, it was decided to use the top deck waterproofing system Triflex ProPark with a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin base.
