Pergamon Museum Berlin

The Pergamon Museum has only saddle and hipped roofs covered with conventional wired glass. The roof truss consists of a steel girder construction. Over the years, the glass pane cement in their T-profiles became brittle. The birds did the rest. They eagerly picked up the putty and covered the roofs of the building with a thick layer of guano. Parts of the metal construction were covered with rust. The result: rainwater could penetrate the attic and part of the light ceiling,
right into the exhibition rooms below. The structural roof elements of the Pergamon Museum were acutely compromised in places. When the Berlin company Halau Dachdeckerei GmbH was awarded the contract to waterproof the first roof section in autumn 2001, it decided in favour of Triflex ProDetail.

Refurbishment requirements

  • Quick application
  • Waterproofing at a roof pitch of 15 to 30 degrees
  • Adhesion to glass and metal
  • Refurbishment even on a winter construction site
  • Retaining historical character
  • Long-term protection
  • Slip-resistant and weather-resistant surface

Refurbishment steps overview

  1. Cleaning glass surfaces and metal profiles
  2. Masking the working tracks on the side of the glass plates
  3. Application of Triflex ProDetail with insertion of 15 cm wide Triflex Special Fleece
