Babelsberg Palace Potsdam fountains

After a sleepy existence of almost 100 years, the numerous fountains in the park surrounding Babelsberg Palace have been brought back to life. During the course of an elaborate, complex development process, the client, the Berlin-Brandenburg Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation, had the park’s irrigation system restored. In order to preserve the listed fountains, the structures had to be protected from the elements and penetrating moisture using a long-lasting waterproofing system. These requirements are met by Triflex BTS-P. The contract for the processing was awarded by Dr. Krekeler Generalplaner GmbH, Brandenburg an der Havel to Huschenbeth GmbH & Co. KG, Mühlhausen, and Nüthen
Restaurierungen GmbH & Co. KG, Erfurt. Together with the planner and Triflex application engineers, they implemented the refurbishment requirements step by step.

Refurbishment requirements

  • Durable protection against moisture
  • Secure waterproofing of various details
  • Weather-resistant, robust surface
  • Refurbishment without structural changes
  • Designed for historical monuments and visually appealing

Refurbishment steps in detail

  1. Removing the old covering
  2. Repairing and applying a new screed in compliance with the requirements of historical monuments
  3. Grinding of the substrate
  4. Priming the surface using Triflex Cryl Primer 276
  5. Detail waterproofing of upstands of the well floors, curves within the well basins and water-spouting sculptures with fleece-reinforced Triflex ProDetail
  6. Sealing the surface with fleece-reinforced Triflex ProTerra
  7. Coating of the surface with Triflex ProFloor RS 2K
  8. Surface finishing with Triflex Cryl Finish 205 with a fine quartz sand dressing

TRIFLEX WAS THE TAILOR-MADE SOLUTION FOR THIS PROJECT, BECAUSE THE LIQUID APPLIED WATERPROOFING BLENDS FUNCTIONALLY AND VISUALLY INTO THE HISTORICAL EXISTING STRUCTURE.
THE MATERIALS USED FULLY MEET THE EXACTING DEMANDS.
